5279 patients with laboratory confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) infection between 1 March 2020 and 8 April 2020
The median age of the study population that tested positive for covid-19 was 54 years (interquartile range 38-66 years), and 2615 (49.5%) were men. A total of 1195 (22.6%) had diabetes, 1865 (35.3%) were obese (BMI ?30), and 2752 (52.1%) had any form of cardiovascular disease. 2741 (51.9%) required admission to hospital, 990/2741 (36.1%) experienced critical illness,
